Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP)
Beginning in 2019, an individual with a current Medicare Advantage policy will now be able to make a one-time change to their MA plan from January 1st to March 31st. During this Open Enrollment Period, MA members can switch to a different MAPD or MA only plan. Similarly, members have the ability to disenroll from Medicare Advantage and, in place, enroll in Original Medicare.
Please be advised there will be no changes to the standard processes for eligibility, applications, or commission payout.
AEP vs OEP – What’s different?
The effective date of a plan change during OEP will always be the 1st of the month following the policy signature date. For example, if the OEP policy signature date is 2/5/2019, the effective date of the policy is 3/1/2019.
One of the biggest differences between the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) and OEP, is the marketing guidelines. OEP is not marketed. Agents should not perceive this election period as a second “selling season.” Please download the OEP Marketing Guidelines for details on what marketing activities are/are NOT permitted during the OEP period.
IMPORTANT! When completing enrollment applications, there can be only one election type selected – OEP. Applications received with more than one election type will not be processed but sent to the Request for Information (RFI) team for determination of which election type is correct. At this point, agents can assist the RFI team by calling 877-677-5609.
