Medicare Restoration Period
AEP is in full swing! Cigna wanted to keep you informed on upcoming changes that will affect your customers and how you do business.
Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) has taken action based on the 21st Century Cures Act that eliminates the existing Medicare Advantage (MA) disenrollment period and replaces it with a new Medicare Advantage open enrollment period (OEP) that will take place from January 1st through March 31st annually.
What this means for you and your customers:
You can –
- Disenroll from a current MA plan to enroll in a different MA plan as an existing MA member.
- Return to Original Medicare and purchase a non-guaranteed issue Medicare Supplement plan if you are an existing MA member.
- Purchase a new MA PDP or standalone PDP if you change from your MA PDP.
You cannot –
- Be enrolled in Original Medicare and switch to an MA plan
- Actively market during OEP to encourage beneficiaries to switch plans.
- Make changes to your Part D coverage if you are enrolled in Original Medicare, including those with enrollment in stand-alone PDPs.
Medicare Supplement plan changes
The current Medicare Supplement plans in Iowa, Louisiana, Nevada, Tennessee, Utah (insured by American Retirement Life Insurance Company – ARLIC) and New Jersey (insured by Loyal American Life Insurance Company – Loyal) are no longer available for sales under your distribution as of October 1, 2018.
If you were contracted to sell ARLIC or Loyal Med Supp, then you are automatically contracted with CHLIC and can begin selling now. Visit AgentView or contact your upline for more information.
Why a Flexible Choice policy can benefit your customer
Cigna Cancer policy – Best value for the price
Cigna was recently ranked the cancer insurance provider with the best value for the price by TheBalance.com. In some cases your customer could be eligible for a policy for as little as $19 per month. With two types of cancer policies available you can choose between a lump-sum payment cancer policy or a fixed benefit cancer treatment policy.
